Alpha Chi Omega offered suggested areas of focus for
our members each week of April to ensure a holistic
approach to sexual assault awareness and prevention:
raising awareness, supporting survivors, action and
advocacy, and reflection and remembrance.
Through a new Program with Purpose called The
History of Sexual Assault Awareness and existing
resources like Challenging Bystander Behavior, sisters
learned about the history of the SAAM, the current
realities of sexual violence in the United States and
how they can take action to prevent violence in their
communities.

FOUNDATION

BY JENNIFER WRIGHT SHERMAN

A
t Texas Tech, the sky was always big, football
was a way of life and taking pictures in a
cotton field was a rite of passage. Growing up,
I had everything I needed. It wasn't until I was older
that I really understood the value and importance of a
strong foundation.
I have been blessed with two wonderful girls, Peyton
(12) and Graycie (9). Peyton was diagnosed with
Schwachman-Diamond Syndrome, and in September
2020, she underwent a successful bone marrow
transplant in Houston, Texas - 10 hours away from our
home in Lubbock. This was the first time my life had
been SO majorly impacted. How will I make all this
work? What will my baby go through? And how could
we pay all our bills while maintaining two households?
At the start of Peyton's treatment, my mom dropped us
off at the hospital. There were many questions racing
through my mind, and we didn't know where we were
going to live after treatment. We had no car, and no
one could come in or out of the hospital because of the
COVID-19 pandemic.

a great way to be close to the entire chapter because
you live with them and get to see them all the time."
The chapter house has an open-door policy, and sisters
won't start sitting at a new dining room table unless
all others are full, which continuously promotes a
welcoming and inclusive environment. Annika adds, "I

Taking that confidence into her career, Kristen is now
