The Domestic Violence Awareness Project, a project of
the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence,
developed a unified campaign called #1Thing, which
inspired Alpha Chi Omega's 2021 Domestic Violence
Awareness Month messaging. This October, we
launched a new Program with Purpose, "Awareness
Into Action," which helps our collegiate and alumnae
chapters explore how collective action relates to the
issue of domestic violence and helps participants
identify what they can contribute to this cause.
We also hosted webinars with our national partners
at the One Love Foundation and through our Women

of healthy and unhealthy relationships, but also how
members can transform our philanthropy into a career.
And through the Foundation's Community Impact

Alpha Chi Omega alumnae have countless positive
memories of college, from extracurricular activities
Career success isn't everything; well-being and feeling
to academic and personal development. Compared to
content with post-grad life is important. Gallup
those who did not join a sorority or fraternity in college,
reported that affiliated alumni are more likely than
nonaffiliated alumni to be satisfied with their
lives - nearly five times as likely, in fact, to rate
their present lives a 10 on a scale of worst to best
possible life. Within all well-being measurements
of career, social, financial, community and
physical aspects, those who joined a sorority or
fraternity responded that they are thriving more
those who were not members of fraternal groups.
And one final data point, perhaps the most
powerful of all: 84% of affiliated alumni say if
they had to do it all again, they would still join
their fraternity or sorority. Alpha Chi Omega
is proud to provide a collegiate experience that
fosters connection, builds leadership skills and
creates a network of sisters as part of the lifelong

LET US SEEK THE HEIGHTS
61st NATIONAL CONVENTION
JULY 8-10, 2022
BELLEVUE, WASHINGTON
Join us to seek the heights together at our 61st National Convention as we reconnect with our
sisters and Alpha Chi Omega. Convention will be held at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue on
Seattle's Eastside.
Enjoy spending time together, including additional time and opportunities for networking,
sisterhood and making once-in-a-lifetime memories with friends new and old. We cannot wait to
see you in Bellevue!
Look for registration to open in February 2022!
Insider's Guide
to Bellevue
Our 2022 National Convention local volunteer chair, Jill Kinison (Theta Tau, Rutgers
University), shares about her journey to the Pacific Northwest and some of her favorite
parts of Bellevue and neighboring Seattle that she doesn't want you to miss!
JILL KINISON
so, YOU'RE FROM THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST?
No, admittedly, I'm not, but I've lived here for over 10 years. I grew up in New Jersey and came out here for a family
vacation when I was 19. Walking the Seattle streets, I fell in love and instinctively knew I was meant to return.
Three years later I signed a lease for my First Hill neighborhood apartment, started graduate school at Seattle
University and began a one-year practicum with University of Washington's Greek Life Office. After graduation, I
moved to Texas briefly (and picked up a southern gentleman of a husband) and returned in 2013 to a new place in
the Fremont neighborhood. We've been here ever since. In 2016, we purchased a home just north of Seattle proper.
Safe to say, we're not leaving anytime soon.
ISN'T IT RAINY ALL THE TIME?
October through May it does rain here. a lot. But New York City gets
more cumulative rainfall than we do. It's just spread out over more days
in the Pacific Northwest. It's not typical that we experience lightning,
thunderstorms or downpours. Here, it's more likely to be cloudy, gray
and overcast accompanied by anything from a mist to light rain. Invest in
a Vitamin D supplement and a solid rain jacket, and you're good to go.
Activities don't stop here just because of the rain. In fact, it's a sure sign
you're a tourist if you're carrying an umbrella.
WINTERS ARE TOUGH, BUT WE'RE REWARDED
IN THE SUMMER.
JILL AND EMILY ANCINEC (IOTA ALPHA,
Little known fact: summers (June-September) here are absolutely

stunning. Endless humidity-free, sunny days and mild 75-degree
temperatures, with orca pod sightings and mountain views everywhere you turn. The days are long during those
months with sunsets after 9 p.m. PDT, and most everyone takes advantage of being outside.

"THE MOUNTAINS ARE CALLING, AND I MUST GO."
In Bellevue, you are surrounded by wilderness and water. You have the
Olympic Mountains to the west, the Cascades to the east and Mount
Rainier holds court on clear days over all of it to the south. The Puget
Sound glistens east of the Emerald City, and Lake Washington connects
the East Siders from those living in city. Regardless of where you live,
there are opportunities to play in all of it: camping, sailing, kayaking,
hiking, snow shoeing, sea planes, skiing/snowboarding, paragliding,
mountain biking, city walking trails, geocaching there's SO much to do
and see outside.
WHAT ELSE DOES THE AREA OFFER?
Proximity. Bellevue is less than 15 minutes from Seattle by car, and
a train ride away from Portland to the south and Vancouver, British
JILL AND HER HUSBAND, LUKE, HIKING
Columbia to the north. If you're itching to explore the mountains but
SUMMERLAND TRAIL ON MOUNT RAINER
don't have a car, there are plenty of organizations that can help you get
out of town. (Hint hint: More information about Alpha Chi Omega-led excursions coming soon!)
Water travel. From Seattle, you can take a passenger/car ferry to Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Poulsbo and
Kingston. From downtown, you can take a 20-minute water taxi (foot passengers only) to West Seattle - home of
Alki Beach.
Pro sports. I come from a hockey-loving family, SO we're all thrilled that we just kicked off our first pro NHL season
with the Seattle Kraken team. If sports are your thing but hockey isn't, we also have Seattle Seahawks (NFL), Seattle
Sounders (MLS) and Seattle Mariners (MLB).

CONVENTION PAGES
Interested in a behind-the-scenes experience at
convention? Serving as a convention page is a fun and
exciting opportunity available exclusively to collegiate
members. As a convention page, you will meet, work
and network with alumnae, other collegians, staff and
board members from across the country. You'll also work
behind the scenes with event and meeting preparations,
help during the election process and assist with a
number of other convention activities.
"Serving as a convention page was one of my favorite
experiences from my collegiate career," says 2018
page Allie Cantalupo (Kappa Chi, Florida Gulf Coast

HOW CAN MEMBERS SUPPORT COB?
As was mentioned before, year-round recruiting is essential
- for both our collegiate chapters and all our alumnae. At
the college level, COB is the responsibility of all members.
They should always be meeting PNMs on campus,
consciously PACEing (Promoting Alpha Chi Everyday) and
sharing about the positive experience of Alpha Chi Omega
membership. The whole chapter should be contributing
to a names list SO that the officers in charge can reach out
when it's time to COB. Don't be afraid to send a message on
social media to an unaffiliated woman or ask a woman in
your class to attend an event.
And Alpha Chi Omega needs the support of sisters of all
ages as well! Promoting the sorority experience and sharing

From her athletic and professional career, Jennifer
recognizes the importance of sports for women. From
a young age, girls can learn confidence, empowerment,
leadership and work ethic by playing a sport. She adds, "It
helps you be comfortable in your own skin."
Teamwork is something Jennifer learned from both sports

than yourself. You come together for a common goal.
Both of those experiences have helped shape me being
able to work with different people and work as a team."

National Nominating
Commitee
DEAR ALPHA CHI OMEGA SISTERS,
The National Council is seeking members to serve on Alpha Chi Omega's 2022-24 National
Nominating Committee (NNC). The NNC is charged with identifying women who have the vision,
skills and professional experience to serve as the elected board leadership of Alpha Chi Omega on the
2024-26 National Council.
In accordance with Fraternity policies, the National Council will prepare a slate of candidates to be
voted on by delegates at the 2022 National Convention in Bellevue, Washington, which will consist
of five alumnae members (the chair, a chair-elect and three alumnae members) and one alternate
alumna member. In preparing the slate, the National Council attempts to assemble a team of women
who represent the diversity of our membership and are knowledgeable about important issues of the
Fraternity as well as its governance structure.
The work of the 2022-24 NNC begins after the 2022 convention and culminates in summer 2024
when the NNC presents the slate of National Council candidates to the 2024 convention delegates for
election.
QUALIFICATIONS
Recommended individuals should be Alpha Chi Omega alumnae in good standing with an
understanding of board governance and the National Fraternity as well as the ability to analyze the
needs of the Fraternity and qualifications of prospective candidates. Experience recruiting board
members for nonprofit organizations or prior participation in a confidential nomination and slating
process is valuable experience for this committee.
NNC members agree to maintain strict confidentiality regarding prospective nominees and the
deliberations of the committee and shall have no conflicts of interest with the National Fraternity,
including potential for personal financial gain from National Council decisions.
A candidate for the NNC may not, at the time of slating and election or at any point during the
NNC term to which she is elected, serve on any Alpha Chi Omega corporation board or hold any
office which makes her a voting delegate at the 2022 or 2024 national conventions, including being
a Past National President. Members of the 2022-24 NNC agree not to be candidates for the 2024-26
National Council.
