sisterhood to educate others about this critical issue.
Domestic violence is a cause with global reach, but
change starts locally. Throughout October, Alpha Chi
Omega chapters continued to fundraise for and engage
with local service providers through community events.
As just one example, the Iota Lambda chapter at Texas
Christian University celebrated 23 years of partnership
with The Women's Center of Tarrant County with its
first-ever Walk a Mile event, raising more than $22,000,
well over the $15,000 goal. Through the Alpha Chi
Omega Foundation's Community Impact program, our
chapters raised more than $1 million for local domestic
violence service providers and shelters in 2022, bringing
our total to more than $9 million since the program's
founding in 2006!
While Domestic Violence Awareness Month may
be over, the work continues. Alpha Chi Omega and
our members remain committed to fighting against
unhealthy relationships and building healthy ones,
making an impact in dozens of local communities and
for countless people around the world.

are better because of Alpha Chi Omega.
As a collegian, I was highly involved with my
chapter and had the opportunity to attend national

impact of being chapter president and experiencing

he 2022-23 academic year has brought exciting new additions to the National Housing Corporation, as we
welcomed the Chi and Alpha Kappa chapters to the NHC. As two of Alpha Chi Omega's older chapters, we
were thrilled to have these Oregon chapters transition their facilities over to the NHC. Both chapters were
previously managed by their respective local housing corporations, which oversaw the daily facility needs and were
responsible for maintaining the properties. We are grateful to the devoted alumnae of these two LHCs for their
commitment to care for these two beautiful Alpha Chi homes.
Here is a little history on the chapters and their facilities.

The Alpha chapter at DePauw University had a busy

Chi Gamma alumnae chapter in the northern
suburbs of Chicago. Though the chapter has since
closed, the women remain best friends five decades
later and demonstrate the lifelong bond of Alpha Chi
Omega.
"From the moment I was selected to join Alpha Chi
in the fall of 1957, Alpha Chi has been the center of
my life," says Medora Lethbridge Deason (Gamma Nu,
San Diego State University). She built friendships with
sisters who mentored her when she took on leadership
roles with Alpha Chi Omega, and her connection to the
Fraternity only grew over time. "In 1975, my husband
and our two children moved to Chicago, where we
were introduced to the largest and dearest group of

This was the Gamma Chi Gamma alumnae chapter,
which in the 1970s was led by Linda Wise Graff (Iota,

hange creates possibility for something new.
It creates an opportunity to learn something
about ourselves or others. Change builds
on skills we have and helps us build new ones, like
flexibility, adaptability and resilience.
In order to embrace new chapters, we have to
understand how we relate to change. What are our
thoughts, feelings and reactions to change? Once we
understand how we approach change, we can decide if
and how we want to relate to it differently in the future.
First and foremost, anxiety and discomfort with
change are natural and common because it's biology
and neuroscience. Our brains are wired to not like
change because we view it as loss or risk. Rather than
ignoring or avoiding the feelings, give them a voice.
Find an outlet to reflect, whether talking to a friend
or sister or journaling. Shining light on the feelings
allows us to name them and identify how we want to
respond to them and how we are using them during
times of change. Other tactics can include mindfulness,
self-assessments and asking for feedback. Find tools to

In September 2022, members of Alpha Omega Alpha
attended a totally tubular 80s themed bash in honor of
the Metro Detroit alumnae chapter's 81st anniversary!
Like many chapters, AOA has hosted a mix of virtual
and in-person events since 2020, SO members were very
excited to celebrate together in person! Sisters were
encouraged to bring a guest and dress in their best 80s
attire, and they certainly delivered; attendees dusted off
their leg warmers, busted out the shoulder pads and
teased their hair!
Along with unique events like this, Alpha Omega
Alpha hosts some signature events each year. A fan
favorite is the annual Hobby Auction, where members
are encouraged to bring something they made (or
purchased) to be auctioned off. Sisters, friends and family
members engage in a lively bidding war for coveted
items like baked goods, crafts and vintage Alpha Chi
Omega items. Proceeds go toward the chapter, the Alice
Lohrman Andrews Michigan Scholarship Fund with the
Foundation and two local domestic violence shelters.
After pivoting to a virtual model for the past two years,
the chapter is excited to use a hybrid approach this year
